Approach

CTrees is a nonprofit organization on a mission to track carbon in every tree on the planet and to deliver science-based geospatial data for enabling natural climate solutions at all scales.

How It Works

How It Works

CTrees’ platform uses peer-reviewed science and state-of-the-art technology to deliver data on changes in forest carbon at all scales. Our systematic, open-source approach is designed to increase confidence in climate policies and forest carbon credits anywhere, supporting assessments of additionality, permanence, and leakage.

A Global Picture

Using cloud-based computing and artificial intelligence, CTrees integrates advanced satellite technology (lidar, radar, optical imagery), science-based algorithms, and inventory plot data to accurately map variations of carbon stored in forest and non-forest landscapes, including coastal wetlands and mangroves.

Historical Viewpoint

Historical Viewpoint

Processing satellite imagery from the early 2000s to present in a machine learning model that detects change, the CTrees platform provides historical changes of carbon stocks at any scale, supporting accurate baseline and reference level estimates for projects and jurisdictions.

Emissions & Removals

CTrees applies new techniques in land use activity mapping to deliver data on historical greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation, degradation, and fire − and carbon removals from forest regeneration, secondary growth, and afforestation.

All Trees

All Trees

Using very high-resolution satellite imagery, lidar, and deep-learning algorithms, CTrees is building the first global carbon inventory of trees inside and outside forests − to inform investments in nature-based solutions everywhere.
